Sunset-Bridge, acrylic ink on paper, 8.5 x 12 in. (11 x 14 in. matted), 2017.
“Sunset-Bridge” is part of a series of ink drawings titled, “Environments of Illusion & Representation”, which explores the idea of memory through layered landscapes creating these dream-like spaces. These spaces feel real but have something not quite right about them, creating a sense of familiarity with something nonexistent. I use my own travel photographs to create these dreamlike, colourful scenes. Each composition is composed of two images of environments layered on top of one another. Like a mirage they are an illusion within a landscape that makes things appear where they don’t belong. Landscapes and environments are especially blended in memory and in dreams, they bleed into one another, but that feeling of realness and familiarity stays the same regardless of the amount of distortion.
This drawing is matted, but unframed.
